Jonathan Cainer provides a branch of astrology that assimilates the mystic traditions of Tibetan Buddhism with classical Western astrology. According to Cainer, human behavior is attributed to a chemical balance in the body by scientists; to childhood conditioning by psychologists; to depth of faith by religious leaders; and to planetary cycles by astrologers. But Cainer says, "The more I find out about all the conventional ways to explain human behavior, the more it strikes me that they are just a little bit too narrow and logical." Cainer began to see such boundaries of narrow logic expand into non-existence when he discovered Tibetan Buddhism.

After nearly a quarter of a century working as a professional astrologer, Cainer happened onto a book about ancient Eastern philosophies in a bookstore in Katmandu , Nepal .
