Kung Fu originates from China where it was first introduced in order to stay alive and kill animals for food and defense purposes. Most martial arts are inspired from animal fight tactics and adapted later to different regions or type of animal or person they were fighting.
Kung Fu for Self Defense
Even though many have used Kung Fu to survive or kill in the past, today learning Kung Fu is mostly for self defense so you can be armed without literally carrying any weapon at all. Learning Kung Fu however, is not like learning to shoot a bow and arrow but it is a discipline, which may take a considerable amount of time to adjust and comprehend.
When learning Kung Fu you don't only train your body but also your mind in order to be on the look out for the unknown, read your opponent's mind when needed as well as try to judge his or her next move and combat it before it hurts you.
Meditation is required in order to control your mind and body; practice will be performed in order to perfect your moves and judge the opponent's mind and moves. Learning Kung Fu requires dedication and consistency in order to keep in shape and be ready to practice your learning when the occasion arrives. If you don't practice Kung Fu on a regular basis you may hurt yourself when attempting to perform a sudden move in self-defense, straining your muscles or even breaking some bones.
The best way to learn Kung Fu is to attend a traditional class where you can be assisted by a professional Kung Fu instructor and you can learn the basics the right way as well as have other students around you from whose mistakes you can learn a lot.
If you decide to learn Kung Fu online or with the help of professional DVDs you need to precisely follow the instructions on them and also learn to listen to your body who may give you signs and signals if you are over doing your exercise, look for signs such as shortness of breath, chest pains and nausea. If any of the mentioned symptoms occur stop your exercise and consult a qualified Kung Fu instructor before you attempt to practice again as the exercises may not be suitable for you.
Get Dressed for Kung Fu
Most martial arts are practiced in what you must be familiar with and that is the white cropped pants and the loose fitted top with short sleeves and a belt to keep it in place. Usually, the color of the belt refers to what level of Kung Fu you are practicing, but if you don't have this uniform you can always wear comfortable clothes such as sweats and a T-shirt and start learning Kung Fu in the comfort of your home.
