There are quite a few different long haired cat breeds that you can choose from, and long haired cat breeds are actually the favored of all cats, primarily because of their beautiful long coats and attractive appearance.
The Most Popular Long Haired Cat Breeds
Although there are literally hundreds of different long haired cat breeds to choose from, there are a few that are especially popular. One is the Persian cat. This is actually one of the oldest breeds of cats in the world, and definitely one of the most popular.
They are incredibly friendly and even great with children. The breed is thought to have originated in Persia, which is where it got its name from, and today it is easily one of the most recognized and highly sought after. Persian cats typically have very long and soft hair, a strong and cobby build, chubby cheeks and a high nose.
They are well known for their temperament and make wonderful family pets. They are considered as being the most calm and docile of all cat breeds and they are incredibly loving and affectionate.
They are also very easy to groom even though they have long hair, and they require very frequent grooming. You have to be willing to do daily brushing and give your cat a bath at least once a month. Otherwise, their fur is going to end up getting knotted and tatty, and also remember that they should always be kept indoors.
Another of the most popular long haired cat breeds is the Balinese. They look very similar to the Siamese cat only their fur is much longer. They are actually known as being the long haired cousin to the Siamese and as a breed they combine the effortless grace and fine lines of the Siamese breed with a long, beautiful silky coat.
Whichever type of cat you choose, the most important thing is that you are able and willing to give them a lot of attention and love, because this is what all cats are looking for. Cats are always attention seekers and want to get lots of petting and attention. If you are not going to be able to devote enough time to your pet then you should consider getting another type of animal as a pet.
Also, if you have allergies rather than a long haired feline friend you may prefer to get a short haired or even bald cat, to make sure that your allergies will not be aggravated.
