Psychic Uniform
As with the practice of any discipline or sport, there is often a uniform that is worn to distinguish your involvement in this sport and your appreciation of the discipline. Uniform wearing can be found in sports such as baseball, football, basketball, ice hockey, etc.

Another sport and discipline that identifies the participant with the sport is the Kung Fu uniform.

Distinguishing the Kung Fu Uniform

First of all, it is important to note that there is a difference between the Kung Fu uniform and that particular outfit that is commonly worn by those who practice the art of Karate. The outfit that is worn by individuals who practice Karate is known as a Karate gi.

A Karate gi is a uniform that is comprised of three pieces. Those pieces are the jacket, the belt and the pants. This particular type of uniform is of a wrap-around variety and the pants fit the lower torso loosely. Generally the material that the Karate gi is made from is cotton or a blend of cotton and polyester.

A Kung Fu uniform is different in a number of ways. First of all, rather than being made from cotton, a Kung Fu uniform is made from satin. This look and fabric used is intended to reflect the early dress of the common Chinese person in times past.

Also, rather than the use of a belt, a sash is worn around the waist. The sash represents your mastery of the discipline of Kung Fu. This representation is reflected on where the knot, that adjoins the two ends of the sash together, is placed around the waist. If the knot is placed in the center this represents your mastery of the discipline of Kung Fu. If the knot is placed to either side of the center it denotes that you have not attained your mastery level. In addition, it is important to note that the placement of the knot is gender specific. Therefore, females should place the knot to the right of the center and that men should place their knot to the left of the center.
The Symbolism of the Kung Fu Uniform
As with any uniform, it is important that the Kung Fu uniform be worn appropriately and that its wearing reflects the proper respect for the discipline. Therefore, it is important to understand how the uniform should be worn and what the purpose of wearing a Kung Fu uniform entails.
One of the primary reasons for wearing a uniform is to minimize the individuality of the participants. The wearing of a Kung Fu uniform is no different and sends a strong message to each of the participants that everyone is on the same level despite the varying degrees of mastery.
In addition, the wearing of the Kung Fu uniform is a reflection on the discipline of Kung Fu itself. The lack of proper care for the uniform, mishandling the uniform and not wearing the uniform as prescribed is a negative reflection on this particular martial art.
