Nearly everyone in the world knows what Kung Fu is, it's a Chinese martial art made famous by such people as Bruce Lee and by such movies as The Matrix series. However, what some people don't know is that Kung Fu isn't just about using your hands and feet as weapons. Sometimes, Kung Fu artists study the use of the Kung Fu weapon. The Kung Fu weapon can describe anything from a pair of nunchukus, two pieces of wood connected by a string or chain, to a sword. When you watch an expert practice with a Kung Fu weapon, you will notice that the sword, or whatever Kung Fu weapon they use, makes almost the same movements as the feet or hands do. That's because the artist knows that a weapon is merely an extension of the hands, or of the limbs rather. A Kung Fu weapon can reach things that the hands and feet can't and they can usually do a lot more damage.
A Weapon Is Not Necessarily An Advantage
It's necessary to remember that when you practice with a Kung Fu weapon, it's not necessarily giving you the upper hand. If you're inept at using a Kung Fu weapon, a true Kung Fu master will still beat you even if he or she is unarmed. It's important to practice that Kung Fu weapon as if that weapon were a part of you. Pretend that the weapon is attached and is only there to allow you to do certain things that you couldn't normally do without a Kung Fu weapon.
There are many Kung Fu schools around today that teach the art of weaponry. Just remember that, if you are going to learn at one of these schools, you are very careful. Know the risks. Also know that your instructor is certified to teach with whatever Kung Fu weapon you will be using. If the instructor, or Si Fu, is adept at teaching the bo staff, and he's teaching you with a sword, you stand a greater chance of getting hurt or worse. Just be careful and learn a little bit about the school you are going to be training at.
Before you learn how to use a weapon, it's best to learn the art of Kung Fu first. Start with the basics. Remember, the weapons are an extension of your hands and feet. Therefore, you'll want to learn to use your hands and feet skillfully before you even think about picking up a weapon. However, if you're already a skilled practitioner of Kung Fu then take it to the next step and begin to learn the art of the Kung Fu weapon.
