Why Printable Tarot Decks Are Becoming More Popular
Enter any New Age store and the odds of finding a beautifully crafted tarot deck are high. By far the most commonly used deck is the Rider-Waite rendition and it rests on the artistry of Pamela Smith and the instructions of Arthur Waite. Printed by the Rider Company, this deck is the one most anyone is familiar with today. The Tarot of Marseille is another deck of cards many in the European countries are familiar with and although the actual names of the creators are unknown, the imagery is thought to have heavily influenced both Ms. Smith and Mr. Waite. Today, printable tarot decks are appearing and they are leaving behind the old symbolism.
It is a curious development that sees the artistic creation of highly individualized printable tarot decks that may sport the faces and likeness of those other revere or believe to be specifically apropos to a certain card or suit. Take for example the likeness of Martin Luther King, Jr. who in one deck represents the king of clubs, and it becomes obvious rather quickly why printable tarot decks are becoming more popular: highly individualized, these cards make it possible for the individual tarot reader to have an even more personal connection to the cards.
This of course is a most valuable idea wince reading the cards and offering advice to oneself and others from the cards requires not only a trained skill, but an innate connection to the truths the cards may be holding. Many websites now offer print downloadable and printable tarot decks which feature the designs the artists felt were near and dear to their hearts. Other sites contain meticulous instructions for the creation of one's own personalized deck and even a matrix that permits for the quick generation of images against the backdrop of traditional tarot symbolism.
Of course, the downside of printable tarot decks is the still somewhat crude elements that are reliant only on the skill with the cut and paste functions of whatever art program one's personal computer may hold. Thus, the imagery is not superior to the established deck which was hand crafted and lovingly detailed. To the novice this might not make a lot of difference and especially younger individuals who are just getting started do not have a problem with putting their favorite pop stars and other images onto the cards; while this may be fun, it robs the tarot of some of its function and possibly also functionality.
